In the 1980's it was decided that a special place
was needed where the older habitants of St Marychurch could meet.
In
1992 fund raising began in earnest and due to a magnificent effort,
the huge sum of £215,000 was raised which enabled the centre to be
built.
Financial support came from fund raising events; handsome donations
from indivituals, local groups, businesses, national organisations
and children who collected 20p pieces in Smartie tubes.
On May 29th
1996 the Centre was officially opened by the actor David Suchet.
The
centre is now the main meeting place for anyone who is 55 years or
older, where you can pop in for a quick cup of coffee when doing the
shopping or stay long enough to read the daily papers whilst enjoying
the company of others in the comfortable surroundings.
WHO
CAN USE IT?
It is especially for the 'more mature,'
wiser and discerning
